Wading footwear can make or break a trip, particularly in the salt where all sorts of dangers exist that we don’t have to think about on the river. We learned the hard way wading the flats of the Laguna Madre in Texas and in Florida when we were first starting out fishing in the salt.
We’ve worn several different flats wading shoes over the years, including a very nice pair made by Patagonia, but we like these Simms Flats Sneakers much better.
The first thing that we noticed about these shoes is that they’re much more comfortable that other brands we’ve worn, particularly when on the casting deck all day - their perforated neoprene lining is soft enough to provide comfort but is very supportive. A nice thick rubber toe and heel provide great abrasion resistance, and urethane panels (like on a high quality raft) provide urchin and other punture protection.
Finally, they have a non marking, siped sole that provides great grip on a wet deck.
Not only are these flats shoes feature packed and a dream to wear, they’re priced lower than many of their competitors - how’s that for a change?
