For most fly fishermen, the fly rod goes into storage after about mid-November.  But there are incredible fishing opportunities to be had all year round.

Hopefully, this series about the Blue Winged Olives has inspired you to get out and enjoy the wonderous outdoors.  One of my favorite things about winter fly fishing is the lack of crowds.  A river that is shoulder to shoulder in the fair weather months will be almost empty in the wintertime.

Not only can winter fly fishing cure cabin fever, but the fishing can be surprisingly good.  Blue Winged Olives are a great hatch all year round, but there is a certain satisifaction to fishing this hatch during a snowstorm.  Even though you may have to clear the ice from your line guides on every other cast, just remember how great it is to be out here.  See you on the water!
