We had a chance after lunch today to run to the Park to fish with a friend on the uppper Gibbon (we’ll post in the morning - we had a great outing), and drove up 191 from Bozeman to West to get into the Park.
The Gallatin loaded with mud from Taylor’s Fork and Fan (Specimen was clean), and blown out from Fawn pass all the way to Big Sky as we drove up - it’s dark as we’re driving right now so we can’t tell where the mud plug is, but the entire river will be affected tomorrow. We passed Fan in the Fawn Pass area right about sunset, and it looked like it was already improving a bit. The Park section will obviously clear first, but the showers that were still moving through as we have been coming down tonight, tomorrow’s Gallatin water will certainly be off.
There were heavy enough rains to cause a mud slide just outside the Park on the East Entrance Road, so we suspect the Yellowstone will be off tomorrow, as the Lamar has had a significant flow spike this afternoon and evening - we’ll clarify flows and clarity for you in the morning. Slough Creek and Soda Butte will probably be at least stained if not blown out tomorrow.
We’ll detail our great outing on the Upper Gibbon this afternoon in a post tomorrow morning - there will still be decent water to fish despite the recent rains.
