Some more good news out of the Park today - the Columbine Fire burn area has received over 1.5 inches of rain in the past three days, and the team managing the fire has determined that the fire no longer needs to be managed by a Northern Rockies Type II Team.  Management of the fire will be turned over to a local Type III team at 0600 Tuesday, 21 August.

The burn has now been more accurately mapped at 18,255 acres, and 2 hotshot teams are working the final high risk areas long the road just east of Sylvan Pass today.

Sounds like there will be some smoke columns in the next few weeks as fuel pockets dry and burn out, but they must feel they have this fire in pretty good shape at this point.
