The Lamar River is getting a very well deserved break this early season as compared to the high use seasons of the most recent years.  By this time last year it was clear that the northeast corner of the Park had better (clearly not great) water as compared to the rest of the Park, and traffic on the water was very high.  Not this year – she’s been high and dirty for weeks now, but has made real progress the past week or so.

We’d agree with the experts that are projecting the Lamar will be much more fishable by the 23-25th; we’re due afternoon thunderstorms (30-40%) chance today, and a real deluge in the drainage could add a day or two (or three) to that.

We’ve had reports from a friend that fish are being taken on streamers / nymphs in the deeper / slower pools, but it’s doubtful that much of the standard hatch fare will be on tap today.

Flows today near Tower (0715) were 1980 cfs, still way above the average for today of 1120.
