The waters in the northeast corner of the Park were the go to waters by this time last year – amazingly they’ve really just started to come into shape this week, and Slough is ahead of the Lamar and Soda Butte (maybe even more so today after yesterday’s rain).
Slough is still high but has cleared considerably; fish are rising to PMDs, midges, and Drakes in the mornings and evenings, and things should be getting better from here. It’s still a reasonable bet to dredge with streamers and nymph the pools. A friend has even seen some beetles and caddis in the pools on the sagebrush flats below the campground.
Bugs (the annoying, biting sort) are thick this year, as are the bears. Bring spray and common sense for both.
