We’ve had lots of questions this morning about our post yesterday suggesting that YNP will lift the “hoot owl” restrictions on all the Park’s waters except for the Firehole effective tomorrow the 22nd.
The Park has yet to make an official announcement through their press officers or on their website, but we’ve talked to another YNP fisheries biologist today who on the condition of anonymity has confirmed it will soon be announced. She said the status of most Park waters has improved a great deal from a temperature standpoint in the past week, though noted as we did this morning that the lower Gibbon has had some very high water temperatures as recently as a week ago, as did the Firehole and Park Madison. Firehole tribs have been cooling well, but there is apparently no date set for releasing the Firehole (we still don’t think it should be open at all….)
She did add that if the weather were to turn unseasonably warm again that restrictions might be put back in place, though hopefully that won’t be necessary.
Summer’s not over, but this week signals the beginning of the turn to fall. The change is welcome.
