The last few days have felt like summer, and the river despite above average flows is beginning to warm notably in the afternoons. There’s still cooler water where feeder tribs confluence with the river, but with the warmth forecast this week (at least through mid-week, it’s time to fish other waters between noon and 7. Water temps at the gauge near the confluence have pushed 78 F the past two days.
Flows today near the confluence (0700) are 296 cfs, with today’s historical average 281 cfs.
PMD spinner falls (830 to 9ish) have tapered quite a bit, though you’ll still see some activity – the Firehole residents are much more fly and leader wary than even two weeks ago.
In our humble opinion the evening Caddis are the hatch to chase this week; even swinging emergers will produce well at the right time. Might see a beetle or ant tempting trout now and then.
