The Gibbon River continues to fish pretty well, and isn’t warming as much as its neighbor the Firehole on these sunny afternoons.  Jess grabbed a great pic of a lone tree on the upper Gibbon last week in the evening light.

Meadow sections (above and below the falls) are still seeing PMDs and Gray Drakes, though in lesser numbers; the hour before and after sunset is the magic time for the spinner falls and a small, dark caddis down below.  The Canyon section has really come on this past week – small attractors and golden stones fished quietly over the deeper runs are producing well.  Small attractors have been working in the upper meadows and particularly above Norris, though be sure the bear spray is handy above Norris.

Be sure to come fully prepared with a good supply of bug spray – they are aggressive in light winds right now, especially in the lower meadows.

Flows today near Madison junction (0900) are 148 cfs, with today’s average 102 cfs.  Water temps almost hit 74 yesterday before the rains moved in – we’d advise not fishing the lower meadows between noon and 7 PM on the sunny days now.
