The Gibbon River continues to fish pretty well, though the bright days of summer are beginning to take a toll on the shallow beds in the meadow sections.

Today’s Gibbon pic is from the upper meadows near the Solfatara confluence, taken in the bright sun this weekend.  The tree that Jess grabbed a great pic of and we posted a week ago blew down in one of the big storms this past week - who’d have ever guessed that was coming.

The PMDs are pretty much done, we’d still carry some for the earlier mornings, caddis are the go to evening hatch, might see a little yellow sallie around too. Small attractors have been working in the upper meadows and particularly above Norris, though be sure the bear spray is handy above Norris. We are moving into terrestrial season, hoppers in the meadow sections in particular are reasonable fare, run with a dropper where there’s enough water.

Be sure to come fully prepared with a good supply of bug spray – they are still aggressive in light winds right these days.

Flows today near Madison junction (0700) are 131 cfs, with today’s average 96 cfs.  Water temps have been pushing 72 degrees the past few days;  check water temps on the warmer, sunny days, and strongly consider leaving the meadow sections be (at least the lower meadows) from 11 to 7 every day.
