The Lamar River has been fishing well this past week; and there are lots of elbows over in the Northeast corner of the Park already.

The Lamar is still high, but is beginning to clear, and a few hardcores have made their way to the Lamar and are doing quite well walking the banks fishing big crickets and sculpin imitations.  And I mean they have been doing very well – there are some big fish in those waters.

Midday PMD and green drake hatches are providing ample action for anglers, and if you care to stay through the day, the evening caddis hatch is strong right now.  Otherwise, look to fish hopper-dropper or stonefly-dropper combos, especially the stonefly-dropper in the Lamar Canyon.  Spruce moths should be on there way; look for them in the coming weeks.  Folks are still having luck with dead drifting San Juan Worms and Buggers, but the action is definitely moving towards dries as the river comes down and turns green.

Flows today (0600) are 819 cfs, with today’s average 553 cfs at Tower Ranger Station.
