The Fall River has been fishing very well so far this year, and things look to only get better.  Due to the fact that the Fall is one of the more remote, less-trafficked rivers, information is hard to come by, but what we have found we are more than happy to share.  Everyone in the areas seems to share the same opinion that flows are much better this year than in previous summers, and the fish are hungry and ready to go.  Hatches have been steady and strong the past few weeks, including mosquitoes, so be sure to bring the industrial-strength bug spray.

PMDs are the favored hatch in the mornings.  For the afternoons and evenings, definitely go with Caddis – the hatches have been epic of late.  Some fishermen have been having luck with Green Drakes and Golden Stones; reports are coming in of Baetis as well.

During the day, go for either a terrestrial dropper rig (beetles, hoppers, and ants seem to be doing well.)  Use a small fly and a small attractor to form your dropper rig.  Nymph droppers will also work; most folks are using smaller bead heads and lightning bugs.

The Fall is definitely worth your time and the hiking it requires.  Thankfully, this great river is lesser-known than many of the Park waters, and therefore receives less fishing pressure… no elbow-to-elbow fishing here!  Today’s pic is of Cave Falls on the river - almost 250 feet wide it is an amazing sight.

Flows today (0600) are 246 cfs, with today’s average 245 cfs on the one Fall River gage, outside of the Park near Squirrel, Idaho.
