Ooops!  We thought we had an update up on the site for the Bechler since we cranked things back up a few weeks ago – we did the Fall last week but not its kissing cousin’ the Bechler.  By the way, they don’t call this area of the Park the Cascade Corner for nothin’.  Get away from the crowds and enjoy some of the most spectacular water features in all the Park - like Bechler Falls above.  We prefer the fall season for this area offers some of the finest, remote dry fishing  you will see anywhere (that’s anywhere in the world), and because of the sweat equity involved in getting back there, you won’t see the Firehole’s pastel shirt crowd elbowing one another for a parking place in the turnouts.  Bring the camera, bug spray, bear spray, and a headnet.

Like the Fall, its remote setting also makes it a bit harder for us to obtain reliable updates -  we have a trip planned down there in a couple of weeks, but with all that’s going on close to home in Bozeman, none of our buddies made it into the area this past week.

Go to hatches at this point are PMDs (mainly morning) and Caddis in the afternoon and evening; there are a few Golden stones and Green Drakes around too, and it’s possible to see some baetis during the summer too.

Like we posted last week on the Fall - the overwhelming consensus is that for the bulk of the day you have two best choices for prospecting when the hatches aren’t active - a terrestrial dropper rig (hoppers, beetles and ants are working, generally smaller sizes) as well as a smaller attractor - dropper rig.  Standard nymph droppers will work, though most folks are using smaller bead heads (BH prince/hares ear/your favorite) and Lightning bugs.

The mosquito counts in the meadows must be in the gazillions; don’t say you haven’t been warned.

If you have been in and fished the river, we will gladly credit you for information we can post in an update, please shoot us an email!  As we get more data, we’ll provide better information to you.

If you’re new to the site, check our How to Best Use This Site Page.
