We been floored at the number of views our fire reports have been getting the past 10 days or so; we don’t want to overdo the fire reporting - but there’s obviously a fair number of folks who are interested.  One of our team has been back in the Park for a couple of days and should have some new video and pics shortly when they return this evening or in the morning. I wrote this post early today and forgot to put it up; a quick visit to the the Inciweb site at 1235 MDT for an update just now yields the latest news from the fires.    Today’s pic is another from the LeHardy Wildlands Fire taken by Jess this past Monday.  She’s not bad for a girl.

The LeHardy Wildland Fire burning north of Fishing Bridge had a big couple of days since we were in the Park on Monday - they’re still holding to the report that it’s at 8,500 acres with short duration crown runs noted in the wind.  There are now 112 personnel on the fire, and it’s still making short crown runs when the wind is up.  The fire is 5% contained and Fishing Bridge structure protection has been completed.  Just talked to Jake in the Park at about 1220 MDT and he said it’s pretty smokey on the east side of the Park but the fire has not been all that active today thus far.

The Cascade Wildland Fire burning 6 miles west of Red Lodge has consumed 10,173 acres and is now 75% contained according to this morning’s report posted around around 1100. The crew of 429 are being demobilized slowly and most are moving moving to other fires around the West.

The Tumble Creek Wildland Fire in the West Fork of the Stillwater River drainage is as of late last evening estimated at 620 acres, and a Type 2 Incident Team has been assigned.  There are 132 firefighters on the fire; area and road closures are in place on the West Fork of the Stillwater drainage.

The Gunbarrel Wildland Fire burning 40 miles west of Cody was updated about 1130; it has now burned 32,590 acres.  They are continuing to work structure protection along the North Fork of the Shoshone, and there were 288 working the fire as of yesterday evening. This one sounds like it’s been a bear, and is brings to mind memories of the huge fires in the Flathead and Glacier several years ago.  We were running a horse ranch up there and the fires burned for months that year. Goff Creek and Libby Creek have been evacuated.

The Russian Flats Wildland Fire is burning north of Bozeman and southeast of Great Falls; it started Saturday the 2nd (lightning), and has consumed 619 acres.  There are 237 on the fire, and 35% containment is being reported as of early this afternoon. They’ve just posted the closure of a large block the NF lands in the area - details are available on the Inciweb site if you’re headed in that direction.

The Pump Station Wildland Fire that we mentioned on Saturday has been reported as contained.

The other large fire in Wyoming, the New Fork Lakes Wildland Fire burning north of Pinedale (11,585) acres was human caused - an unattended campfire.  Don’t let that happen - it won’t be long until fire bans are posted.
