As of Friday afternoon water and weather look pretty decent for the weekend, certainly better than last weekend when rains blew out waters in south central and southwest Montana (particularly the Gallatin, though the Yellowstone was off too), and the summer’s most productive water in the NE sector of the Park.

Water wise the Lamar and Soda Butte are stained but not muddy as of this afternoon, so barring any further significant rains the Stone should certainly be fishable this weekend; the Gallatin has cleaned up well.  We’re not aware of any major clarity issues around the Park otherwise, the issue for many waters obviously remains the critically low flows……

Weather wise, it’s probably going to be a bit warmer and windier than any of us would like - West Yellowstone is forecast to be at or near 80 both days and windy, rain chances are minimal (20% on Sunday - a CYA forecast by the weather service).

With all the sun and air temps warm, we’re still pitching that the lower Gibbon, the Firehole, and the Madison should be rested and fished in a few weeks when it’s really fall.  If you’re on these waters, watch water temps carefully and move on to other water if needed.

If you’re planning on fishing water in adjacent Montana, we’re not aware of any major issues on other waters at this point - there hasn’t been any significant rain in over 5 days.

Git out there and enjoy some of the last “summer days” in Yellowstone and Montana, fall is knocking…….
