The Fork is behaving just like you’d expect this time of year; there are fish to be caught but you’ll earn ‘em. Summer’s waning – though it was hot last weekend and should be warm and windy again on Saturday if the weather forecast holds.
Flows today at Island Park (0330) were 878 cfs with today’s average 978 cfs; flows have been steady all week.
The Box Canyon – it’s chuck and duck time with weighted double nymph rigs if you really want to make this work; we hear olive HEs or caddis pupa. Streamers aren’t a bad choice very early or late.
Harriman and Last Chance – things sound pretty much like last week - PMDs, Rusty Spinners early and late, with some Caddis thrown in for interest in the evenings. A friend had to run to Idaho Falls last week for business, and on the way back had a nice late afternoon with cinnamon flying ants, and said she saw fair numbers of beetles – as many as hoppers.
Riverside CG to Ashton – the money water right now, invest some sweat equity and throw some hoppers; evening caddis also.
Ashton and Points Downstream – we haven’t been on this water in a bit, but with irrigation flows still running, it’s probably best fished drifting. Hoppers during the day and evening caddis.
