With some of the best fishing in the Park currently on the NE side, many anglers are approaching this area through Gardner / Mammoth, driving over to Tower and on to the waters. YNP released an advisory several days ago concerning road work which will impact travel on the Mammonth / Tower road. We drove it last Wednesday, and if you haven’t lately, it does need some work.
Work was originally set to start Tuesday, July 31 and run through Tuesday, August 7. The planned start of the project has been postponed until Monday, August 6. This road project is now set to run through Saturday, August 11.
Crews will use heavy equipment to remove and recycle the asphalt to repair the road surface. Motorists can expect delays or detours when the project is underway.
From August 6 through August 11, cars and pick-up trucks may be subject to delays of at least 30-minutes between the hours of 6:00 am and 8:30 pm.
Wide and long vehicles such as motor homes, pick-up campers, vehicles pulling trailers, delivery trucks, and tour buses may be subject to delays of up to two hours, or may be detoured around the construction through Canyon and Norris Junction.
Yet another reason to plan to be on the water very early.
