Soda Butte is still fishing quite well despite the recent weather change, and the weather due for the next few days should bring superb options in terms of approaches and hatches.
If you are lucky enough to go out on a warm, sunny day, you may still see some Terrestrial action. Hoppers, Crickets, and Ants all do wonders on Soda Butte, as do Bees. Yes, bees. I’ve had several guys in the store share some stories of really aggressive takes with bee patterns; sounds like the theory is the trout expect to get stung so takes are often fast and furious. Craig Matthew’s guys over on the Blue Ribbon Flies website have been talking about bees for a few weeks now too.
Hatches include Green and Gray Drakes, Caddis, Midges, and some left over PMDs. There may still even be some Spruce Moths around.
Flows today (0600) are 69 cfs, with today’s average 62 cfs near the Lamar Ranger Station. Water temperatures have been in great ranges all day for the past week.
