Ennis, a small fishing-centric town located in the Madison Valley, is just 70 miles northwest from West Yellowstone.  Ennis is surrounded on three sides by the Rockies and over three million acres of the Beaverhead National Forest.  With a town this outdoorsy, one might be tempted to think there is a lack of culture.  Not so.  Ennis boasts some of the best events and cultural gatherings in Southwest Montana.

On September 19, Ennis host one of the Summer ’08 Gallery Walks, a spectacular events showcasing various art from local artists.  Their theme “Get a Taste of the West” is always popular, and Ennis boasts some surprisingly sophisticated local talent.

October 17 brings the Madison Valley Public Library Open House.  Watch as the new, upscale library is unveiled.  Tours and refreshments will be provided, and the people watching is sure to be interesting.  Despite some opinions, we do know how to and in fact love to read here in Montana.  (Well, most of us, at any rate.)

Live to hunt?  Love to hunt?  Are you even vaguely interested in hunting?  Then don’t miss the Hunters Feed and Wild Game Cook-Off held in downtown Ennis on October 24.  Held the Friday before rifle season starts, this event is one of the most popular held in Ennis.  Local businesses prepare wild game dished which are then sampled and voted on by the participants.  The festivities begin at 3 PM.  Come prepared with an empty stomach and wear your camo!

October 31, the Lions Club hosts their annual Halloween Carnival at the Ennis Elementary Gym.  If you have kids, this is the place to bring them on that holiday eve.  Games, prizes, and good food will be on the menu from 6 to 9 PM.

Ennis boasts a unique and creative town spirit every day, but during events and festivals the town truly does outdo itself.  As we head into the Fall season, there are a many excuses to spend a little time in Ennis when you’re in the neighborhood.
