Sounds like quite a few folks are traveling in to start trips this weekend – we’ve had lots of queries about where to fish in what weather the past twenty-four hours.  Here’s what the weather gurus are forecasting for the weekend as of late this morning…

West Yellowstone – 74 Friday with a 20% chance of rain, 68 Saturday with a 40% chance of rain, 63 Sunday with a 30% chance, and 61 and showers Monday.  Next week looks cooler.

Gardiner – 79 Friday with a 20% chance of rain, 75 Saturday with a 20% chance, 65 Sunday with a 40% chance, and 61 Monday with showers.  Next week also looks cooler.

Bozeman – 70 Friday with a 20% chance of rain, 74 Saturday with a 30% chance, 66 Sunday with a 30% chance, and 67 Monday with showers.  Next week cooler.

We made a comment last night when talking about Hebgen filling back up, and went back to today to the climate prediction site at the National Weather Service – lo and behold they updated their prediction maps today and changed things a bit.  Just for interest’s sake - here’s what their weather crystal ball foretells….

The first two maps below are the temperature and precip models predicting October / November / December of this year.

The next two maps below are the temperature and precip models for January / February / March 2009.

As always, it’s way too far out to place much value in these longer term outlooks, though as mentioned yesterday they did call our very late and wet spring of 2008 correctly.  Let’s hope they’re wrong – a very strong snow year will be needed to refill Hebgen and support Madison flows next year.

Think snow.
