The rivers in the Cascade Corner should benefit from the change in weather that rolled in yesterday.  It’s not going to be really cool temperature wise, but the cooler temps, cloud cover and intermittent rain will be very much welcomed.

One good thing about it not getting really cold right now is that is preserves the terrestrials for a bit longer.  A neighbor was in on the Bechler mid-week this past week, and while he and wife did not land fish hand over fist, hoppers, beetles and ants produced consistently for them after noon.

They saw no PMDs, though baetis, Gray Drakes, Mahoganies, Tricos, and Callibaetis were evident, though the hatches were somewhat weak given the sun last week.  They did well swinging soft hackles when there was not an obvious hatch, and saw a few Caddis in the evenings.  No evidence last week of the larger Fall Caddis, but it could show up any time.

We still hold to what we noted last week - the Bechler and Fall may offer some of the finest September and early October dry fly fishing you’ll find in the Park and the entire region; it’s made even more special by the fact that you can’t park the car right there and fish.

If you have been in and fished the river, we will gladly credit you for information we can post in an update, please shoot us an email!  As we get more data, we’ll provide better information to you.
