The reports we’ve heard from the northeast corner the past few weeks have in all honesty kept us away – it’s been very, very crowded – no doubt pushed a bit by the issues impacting the Madison (which are of course much improved at this point).
This is such a great fishery it’s a little painful to see it fished to the point of possible / probable harm to the residents. Hiking up the Lamar a bit from the Soda Butte confluence is still a great idea; invest in a little effort to separate from other fisherfolk. Thankfully pressure typically falls way off in October (can you believe it’s here already); that should be a great help.
The sun and relative warmth has been a factor – making terrestrials a large part of the game, though Drakes have been reasonable, as have Epeorus, with some Flavs still around. If you can will a cloud to cover your section of river these days, BWOs are making things interesting (should be much better this weekend if the forecast holds).
Flows today (0715) are 155 cfs, with today’s average 214 cfs at the gage near Tower Ranger Station.
