The Upper Snake has had an excellent summer, and things are only getting better as we head into the fall.  The past week was warm and sunny, with temperatures in the 60s and 70s – pleasant fishing weather.  The river has been fairly crowded, so come prepared with a good tolerance for your fellow man.  Have no fear, though, the Snake has enough trout for everyone - just like in the picture above.

Terrestrials are still hanging around, though as the weather cools and we get into a true fall pattern (which could begin today) their numbers will dwindle.  For the moment, though, small Hoppers, Ants, and Beetles are all fair game.  On the water, however, an impressive number of hatches are appearing.  Hecubas, some waning PMDs, Tan Caddis are coming of en masse and make for great fish fodder.  Look for Tricos and BWOs coming off in the morning.

Large Attractors, fished along structures and the banks, are bringing up decent sized trout.  For riffles, confluence areas, and seams try some Caddis or Mayfly imitations and see what checks you out.  The time has come to pull out the Elk Hairs, Parachute Adams, and Pheasant Tail Emergers.

Flows today (0600) are 385 cfs, with today’s average 344 cfs, measured on the gage at Flagg Ranch – a far drop from the 1,500 cfs this time last week.
