The cooler, more seasonable weather – and clouds – have made the BWO and Drake action outrageous by the reports we’ve gotten this week.  We were filming yesterday morning on the Henry’s Fork and planned to zoom over to fish the Lamar or Soda Butte, but got tied up and couldn’t make it ourselves.  Dang it.

The upcoming cold snap will probably put an end to - or at least severely curtail – the great terrestrial year the Lamar has had; we’ll leave them on the list for the next few days, but it’s probably curtains after the weekend.

The weather guys and gals are vacillating a bit as to how cold it’s going to get – if the worst scenario holds, the Lamar will probably slow some but will hold up better that its sister rivers in the northeast corner.  Nighttime temperatures are really a key - as of this morning Cooke City’s lows are forecast to be 13 on Friday, and 17 on Saturday, and daytime temps are not forecast to clear 30 (28 on Friday); that kind of weather cools a river pretty quickly.  That kind of weather can put an ice shelf on the river for the dippers to work from…..

Probably time to start watching water temps again and see when things simply just get too chilly to keep our finned friends moving; cross your fingers that it warms back up a bit next week.

Flows today (0615) are 174 cfs, with today’s average 235 cfs at the gage near Tower Ranger Station; the moisture of last week helped push things back up a bit.
