We’ve had an amazing number of emails today about the waters in the NE corner - the Lamar, Slough and Soda Butte.
Folks are worried / frustruated / maybe even exhibting a mild panic that the NE corner waters are done for the season. It probably depends as much on cold as anything - it is going to get cold in the NE corner this weekend (it’s 27 in Cooke City right now at 2:25 on Friday), and the more shallow Slough and Soda Butte will chill impressively. The Lamar is probably a bit more “cold tolerant”. Of course it really depends on how the weather progresses through the weekend and into next week.
We agree with the guys at Park’s that there probably will be better fishing on the West side from here on out (save for maybe the lower Gardiner), and it won’t be long before the Lewis Channel gets interesting again.
There’s also a plethora of great water in Montana right now…..
