For the most part it’s our intent to stay out of the political fray on this site – hey, this is a site about the world of fly fishing in some of the most amazing fly fishing country in the universe.  That is very much on purpose – and we pledge to keep it that way –the fly fishing world is an escape from the drudgery of the real world for us too.

Unbelievably we’ve been chastised by a minority of readers in the past for posting comments about what a great place America is to live – if you’re offended by that kind of talk, stop reading this post now.  (I hope the majority of our readers are amazed by folks chastising us for praising our nation, and yes, they were from large cities in the upper Midwest and Northeast).

At the risk of being called once again a simple minded, gun-totin’, flag waving westerner, those of us who spend our time on this site really do believe that America is a great place to live and work.  We respect and admire the history of our country, and have done so for a long time – we know the nation’s not perfect now, hasn’t been in the past, and probably won’t be in the future.  However – America is still a place where freedom and independence have been core values – real core values that people have been willing to die for over the past couple of centuries.   It’s our humble opinion that we don’t need to be more like Europe, we need to be more like America.

It’s very, very easy to be critical and find things that are wrong with the nation – and there are plenty of things that are wrong.  There are, however, exponentially more things right with this nation that there are wrong.

One of the thing we do right in America is offer citizens the right to vote – not just for the president, but for national, state, regional, and local officials.  We’d venture that most folks have already voted – if you haven’t – vote, and vote smart.  There’s a lot at stake in this election.  Yes, it will take some time to stand in line today – do it anyway.

To several hundred who have emailed over the past several weeks asking for our endorsement of a candidate, we’re sticking to our guns and not doing so here.  For what it’s worth, some of us on the team run another business and have more to say about it here.

Vote.  And Vote Smart.
