Just got off the phone with a ranger friend from YNP who shared a couple of interesting bear stories of late.
Ken Meyer is the safety officer for YNP, and he was attacked and mauled by a sow grizzly near Gardiner on Sunday. Here’s a link to the AP story (I found it on KUTVs website in Salt Lake City of all places).
She also said that a pair of fisherman had a close encounter in the Lamar drainage and fired two bear spray charges at a grizzly and then safely withdrew.
Might be time to dig that can of bear spray out, and we’ll post a series on bear safety to remind you of the do’s and don’ts here…
