There is some good news again this week - flows have been decreased a bit, and while it’s still warm, there’s a little cooler weather due now for a couple of days.
Flows today at Island Park (0330) were 826 cfs (decreased late on the 11th), the average for today 763 cfs. Flows have been running high for weeks due to irrigation demands downstream.
The Box Canyon - the Box is still fishing reasonably well, though as expected this time of year you’ll be happier working the morning and evening. We’ve been most productive fishing double nymph rigs with rubberlegs and beadheads, though streamers are working well early and late. Increased flows should be tapering off before long. We need some cloudy days.
Last Chance to Harriman - Tough sledding this past week. Hatch wise there’s been a few Mahoganies and callibaetis about, as well as caddis in the evenings. Terrestrials (hoppers and small flying ants) will still be useful on the warmer, sunnier days. This is big boy and girl fishing for the very patient, and those who stalk well.
Riverside CG to Ashton - Not changed much from last week, fishing decently. Think about attractor-dropper, hopper-dropper rig, or a double nymph as per the Box. PMDs are for the most part finished, rare caddis in the evenings. Again be ready for almost any hatch, and think terrestrials with dropper rigs or double nymph rigs if nothing is coming off. Try a Golden Stone or PMX on top with a beadhead dropper; attractors are producing well here also.
Ashton and Points Downstream - Cooler weather has helped a bit. If we were fishing this stretch, we’d hit it morning or evening, and have Caddis, a few baetis, and a few rusty spinners ready to go. Streamers will be a decent play early and late, especially on cooler, cloudy days. This section will play well when things really cool off.
