We’re still waiting on the arrival of “the real fall” - this week is gorgeous if you like warm, sunny days.

There are reports of a small fire in the Bechler drainage - the Cave Falls Fire.  It had run to about 20 acres by mid noon yesterday, though winds were expected to push it a bit yesterday evening.  Check reports if you’re headed in this week regarding fire activity.

The best approach to the river at this point will be primarily weather dependent -  on the warmer, sunnier days, you still have  two best choices for prospecting  - a terrestrial dropper rig (hoppers, beetles and ants are working, generally smaller sizes) as well as a smaller attractor dry - dropper rig.  Standard nymph droppers will work, though most folks are using smaller bead heads (BH prince/hares ear/your favorite) and Lightning bugs.

With the exception of Tricos (better on the mid and lower Fall) the fall hatches really haven’t started rolling yet, and might not this week given the weather forecasts.  Be ready for BWO, Mahoganies, Grey Drakes and Fall Caddis anytime.

If you have been in and fished the river, we will gladly credit you for information we can post in an update, please shoot us an email!
