A good guide book can be an invaluable companion during fishing season. One of our favorites is the Flyfisher’s Guide to Yellowstone National Park. This book was written by Ken Retallic and was published by Wilderness Adventures Press, Inc in 2005.
Not only does this book cover Yellowstone National Park, but it includes Grand Teton National Park and the Jackson Hole area. All the major rivers in the park are covered, as well as smaller streams, creeks and tributaries. The Flyfisher’s Guide to Yellowstone National Park also has sections on lakes in the park.
The sections on the rivers are very detailed, describing the river’s character and flows, its fish, its hatches and so on. Access points and areas are listed, as well as helpful information such as seasons and regulations.
Another very useful and informative part of the Flyfisher’s Guide to Yellowstone National Park is its chapters on the history of fishing in Yellowstone, the fish of Yellowstone, bear safety and much more. Basic fly patterns are outlined and beginners to the subject of entomolgy will appreciate the section on aquatic insects.
Flyfisher’s Guide to Yellowstone National Park is a must have if you plan to fish Yellowstone. Whether you are a rank beginner or a seasoned veteran, there is something in this book you could benefit from.
