If you’ve been following local news, you’ve no doubt seen there’s been another bear attack in the Gardner area yesterday (the 14th) morning. The gentleman attacked even shared a room in the Livingston hospital with the YNP Safety officer who was attacked several days ago.
Yesterday’s attack occurred when a bow hunter in full camo (scent masking too) was working a bull elk in (very early), and he noted a grizzly with 3 cubs working his way. They didn’t see him until basically right on his location.
He jumped up into a tree and was pulled back to the ground, the grizzly apparently breaking the tree. The full account can be read here (not sure how long this link will be active).
These recent attacks have prompted the Park to close part of the NE sector of the Park, and the some of the adjacent Gallatin NF lands are closed also.
