The Lamar this past week has fished reasonably well, though sledding’s a bit tougher than in weeks past. These fish have been pounded all summer and into September - they’re wary, flows are low, and there are lots of folks still pounding away on the sunny days.
Flows measured near the Tower Ranger today at 0515 are 139 cfs (slight uptick noted in the past 24 hours - clarity may be an issue for the next few days), with today’s average 235 cfs.
You approach this week will be at least in part weather dependent, as we’ve been talking about the last few reports.
On the sunnier and warmer days consider searching with small terrestials (hoppers, beetles, ants) and attractor nymph droppers. We got beat up using hoppers over here a few days ago, but did very well with smallish black and cinnamon ants and beetles.
On the much prefered cooler, overcast days - BWOs, Fall Green Drakes, and Hecubas will come into play. Deeper runs, pools, and undercut banks will tempt you to throw a streamer or two; it probably makes decent sense especially on the cloudy, cooler day.
