Slough Creek has been a steady friend all summer and into the early fall;  though over the past couple of weeks things have toughened a bit.  The good news with tougher fishing is the crowds are significantly thinned.

There’s no flow gauge on Slough Creek, so there is no flow data to follow - there’s really been no meaningful rain or showers in the Park until yesterday, and reports are that not a lot of rain fell.  Much heavier rain is forecast for Saturday and Sunday - if you’re planning to head to Slough, I’d be watch the showers on weather.com and seeing where they track across this country.

Like most of the water around, we’re still thinking of the best approach to use in different kinds of weather.

Our preference (like most) would be to fish Slough on a wet, overcast, and cooler day - not only does it drive off some of the sports but more importantly it brings out the BWOs, Green Drakes, and Hecubas.  The Drakes can be an amazing hatch to fish.  Tomorrow could be one of these days…

On the sunnier, warmer days (like most of last week) - it’s a bit tougher of late.  Summer’s hatches are long gone, and these fish have had all sorts of hoppers thrown at them for weeks not.  Downsize your flies -  we had some luck with small ants about 10 days ago. Frankly with the sunny days we’ve had, we haven’t been back over since.

With the water year the Park’s had, all the waters in the NE sector are still running pretty low and deeper water is hard to find;  you should still think about a streamer, streamer/nymph, or double nymph set up in the deeper runs and holes.

The weather change due this weekend could be very good for the fishery - we’ll follow along with you.
