YNP released yesterday their final environmental impact statement (EIS) regarding winter use plans for the Park along with Grand Teton NP.

No real surprises here (click to forward to the news release) - snowmobiles will be reduced to 540 per day using BAT (best available technology) starting in 2008, all groups will be guided, and they plan to no longer maintain the East Entrance Road over Sylvan pass all winter.  2007-2008 will be a transition year in terms of adopting the new regulations.

The process now calls for the superintendents of both NPs to make recommendations to their regional director who then makes the final official decision by mid November.

Both Parks are scheduled to open for winter use this year on December 19th.
