The Lamar this past week has fished reasonably well on the right kind of day, though sledding’s a bit tougher than in weeks past.  These fish have been pounded all summer and into September - they’re wary, the river recently has blown out, and terrestrials are about finished.

Flows measured near the Tower Ranger today at 0615 are 169 cfs;  the river really ran up on the 23rd after the snow and rain of the weekend storm, the crest was late the 24th and she’s heading down.  Before the rains flows were pretty steady between 140 and 150 cfs.  It still could be a few days before she’s clear again.

You approach this week will be at least in part weather dependent, as we’ve been talking about the last few reports.

On the much prefered cooler, overcast days - BWOs, Fall Green Drakes, and Hecubas will come into play, though BWOs will probably be the fly to carry the day into October.   Deeper runs, pools, and undercut banks will tempt you to throw a streamer or two; add a trailing nymph to that streamer.

On the sunnier and warmer days consider searching with small terrestials (hoppers, beetles, ants) and attractor nymph droppers.   We got beat up using hoppers over here a few days ago, but did very well with smallish black and cinnamon ants and beetles.  Terrestrials will have about played out at this point due to the quite cool mornings; the survivors won’t last long.
