Since our update last Monday the river has settled back down after the rain spike of the 24th and 25th of September. The area didn’t see much in the way of precip from this most recent weekend’s storms.
Flows today (Flagg Ranch station) are 214 cfs at 0630 , with today’s average 328 cfs.
Your approach to the river will be for the most part weather dependent - just like the past several weeks.
On the cooler, overcast days, consider starting off with a streamer or streamer / nymph set up in the deeper holes and runs. Baetis should make their midday appearance, and there still should be some caddis around in the afternoons, though they’re waning.
On the sunnier, warmer days it still probably makes sense to start the day off with a streamer or streamer / nymph set up in the cool of the day, and then change over to a small attractor / dropper set up to prospect with. We’ve fished BWO hatches in the sun on several Park waters of late - they just won’t be rolling like the cloudy, cooler days.
Finally, terrestrials have played their last song on the river most likely, and though we’re carrying the box still, it’s really nymph time on this and most rivers in this neck of the woods. The terrestrial box gets put away next week…..
