The Gardner continues to fish steadily - and this week’s weather system should make things even better.

Flows overall remain quite low; flows this morning on the lower river near Mammoth  at 0330 are 90 cfs, with today’s average 130 cfs;  this is unfortunately a new low flow record for this date. Flows have been steady all week just over 90 cfs.

If we were fishing the river today (we’re headed over in a couple of days), we’d be nymphing, and I think that’s what the Park’s Fly Shop guys are pitching now too - they know the water better than anyone else.  A double nymph set up, an smaller (14-18) attractor dry / nymph set up, or even a streamer / nymph set up make sense.

BWOs have been stronger this week; the cooler, overcast, drizzly days (yes, we’d all like more of that kind of weather) should really push the hatch this week.

The lower and mid sections of the river are probably the places to concentrate your time now, the upper river is pretty skinny as the brookies have dispersed widely to spawn.

There are more and more browns in the lower river too.
