We had a couple of requests today to provide a late weather and rain update for some folks who were traveling in tonight and headed to West Yellowstone late - they asked if we could help them with a heads up on conditions for tomorrow.
Due the rains of the past 24 hours flows are up almost Park wide tonight - the only rivers that haven’t show a flow increase already are the Yellowstone at the Lake outlet and the Fall, and it’s probably just too early for the Fall as the gauge is outside the Park and down a bit.
West side waters, the NE corner, and the Snake on the south side are up pretty impressively at 2200 this evening, and per the current radar on weather.com there is a fairly large rain mass moving into the Park from the south and east which should soak things pretty significantly. Hopefully a fair amount of that will convert to snow (snow levels should drop to somewhere between 6000 and 6500 feet tonight by the forecast) slowing entry into the river systems of the area. Roads might be a bit slick in the earlier morning with freezing rain evident on radar tonight around Old Faithful around 2200.
Clarity will obviously impacted on multiple waters tomorrow - we were headed into the Park ourselves and may stop instead on the upper Gallatin in the Park (above Taylor Fork / Fan / Specimen should be clear) - we’ll have to see along with everyone else…..
