The Fall River was a bit more consistent with the cooler weather of last week, with this week’s sun slowing things down a bit again.
Please review the Bechler River report posted yesterday - the bears are still banging around back here.
There is only one flow gauge on the Fall that is continuously monitored, it’s on the river outside the Park border, above the Yellowstone Canal near Squirrel, ID. The river was flowing at 489 cfs this morning at 0545, with today’s average 589 cfs.
There are still hatches rolling back here - BWOs, as well as a few Mahoganies and Fall Caddis. As with the Bechler (and much of the water in the Park), you’re going to be more successful nymphing with small mayfly type nymphs and swinging soft hackles.
Streamers (hang a small mayfly type nymph dropper) make sense in the deeper run and pools, particularly early and late, though finding deeper water back here can be an issue given the lower flows.
Finally, terrestrials are done given the cooler weather last week (just might be a beetle or two around?)
