The Gibbon River has fished well again this past week, with the weekend storm even helping a bit.  Flows bumped with the rain and snow, but not overwhelmingly so.

Flow data has not been available since the 19th - reports are (our visual included) that river bumped a bit but did not go off after the rain and snow of late last week and the weekend.  (The flow spike on the Madison has all but moved through as of 0515 this morning).

The ticket on the Gibbon this week is basically the same as last week - work the deeper runs and pools - you need to be ready to so some walking.  In these smaller pools we’re tempted to nymph (reports are stonefly nymphs might play a role here, though we did very well with several rubber legged GRHE on Friday)  or swing soft hackles through, versus a streamer just because of the size of the water.  Bigger pools (there are a few), particularly with undercut banks or overhead cover will hold bigger fish, this is more likely streamer territory.

On the more favorable days there are still some BWOs coming off, not river wide.  The hard core dry fly fisherman will still be happier on the Firehole…..

The lake run fish are moving up and are present in better numbers; we did very well on Friday in the stretch just above the confluence….

By the way, this time of year bison tend to congregate a bit more in NP Meadows - we watched a couple of fishermen nearly get run down as they crowded a pair on Friday - don’t push your luck.
