The Gardner continues fish well, though your window for fishing this under appreciated treasure is rapidly narrowing.
Flows overall have settled back down after the impressive spike on the 20th from the rain and snow of last weekend - flows this morning are 98 cfs at 0630, with today’s average 125 cfs.
BWOs have been strong again this week; though the active hatch window has been narrowing. Don’t forget to think about swinging small soft hackle emergers before the hatch or during a slow, stuttering hatch.
A guide friend and Park’s fly shop have both noted the presence of a fair number of a smaller, darker caddis - about a 16 or so he thought - our buddy said he did well with a super pupa type soft hackle he had tied up….
If we were fishing the river today, we’d still be nymphing, and I think that’s what the Park’s Fly Shop guys are pitching now too - they know the water better than anyone else. A double nymph set up, or streamer / nymph set up make sense too.
The lower and mid sections of the river are still probably the places to concentrate your time now, the upper river is pretty skinny as the brookies have dispersed widely to spawn.
