The Lamar continues to fish well this past week, despited being muddied intermittently by some welcomed showers and thunderstorms.
The Lamar River below Cache Creek remains under special regulations right now - basically the river below Cache Creek is closed from 2 PM to 5 AM. The record setting heat has abated a bit the past few days, but these regs remain in effect as of this report (morning of 8.8). You still need to monitor water temps on the hotter, sunnier days after noon. Water temps this past week have remained in pretty good shape even during the day - maybe restrictions will be lifted soon.
You can fish the Lamar after 2 PM above the Cache Creek confluence and in the Cache itself, and the higher small tribs.
Flows measured near the Tower Ranger station spiked on the 6th (Monday) and have dropped back down to a point equal to the low point of last week already by 0715 this morning - 233 cfs (today’s average 386 cfs, the 20% marker is 264 cfs). Barring further rain, the river should be in good shape later today.
If you’re on the water early, consider targetting the waning PMD hatches; otherwise you’re looking at searching with small terrestials (hoppers, beetles, ants) and attractor nymph droppers. The Flavs are for the most part gone at this point, though there are some Spuce Moths around. Small parachutes have been hot.
