The Gibbon River has fished well again this past week - she’s not the glamorous destination that neighbors are to the west /southwest, but the river has a lot to offer this final week of the season.  Last week’s snow seen above has melted away.

Flows have settled back down this week; flows this morning at 0700 were 82 cfs, with today’s average 99 cfs.  This is yet another daily low flow record for the Gibbon - let’s hope and pray theres more water around next year.

The approach on the Gibbon this  final week of the season will be  basically the same as last week - work the deeper runs and pools - and be ready to do some walking.  We’ve heard reports that the angler willing to walk and stalk will still catch decent fish in the meadows below Norris.

We had a friend in from out of town on Saturday and she wanted to fish the pocket water above the falls, and we did surprisingly well with FB PT soft hackles and small attractors (Trudes esp.) up there, and then had a lot of fun in some of the deeper runs below the falls with streamers (olive woolly buggers, yellowstone spruce, small white and copper zonkers).  Our nympher in the group did very well with a Yuk bug trailing a small BH PT.

On the more favorable days there are still some BWOs coming off, not river wide.  The hard core dry fly fisherman will still be happier on the Firehole…..
