The Firehole will finish the season in fine fettle over the weekend - after a scorching summer which included a fish kill (seems like a long time ago, doesn’t it?) - the Firehole has seen a very steady fall season despite the lower flows and lots of sunshine.

The Firehole’s flow rate today at 0700 near Madison junction was 262 cfs, with today’s mean 271 cfs.  Flows have settled back down after a small, short duration flow bump on the 30th/31st.

Our final report of the year will sound a lot like last week - the bright sun shining much of this week has slowed the prodigious baetis hatches at times, though there have been very decent numbers of bugs on the water roughly from 1300 - 1600.  The hatch has been longer and stronger on the cloudy days, of which there have been few of late.

Our Caddis loving mentor Ed was back on the river in Biscuit Basin yesterday late, and found the caddis to be strong yet again, and there are still plenty of midges around for those so inclined.

Take a long, loving on your trip this weekend if you’re headed in, and enjoy the last days of the season on the Firehole.
