For the avid Yellowstone fly fisherman, today is nothing to laugh about - the Park will officially close “the season” this morning, and all gates will lock except the route into Mammoth.
The Yellowstone fly fishing season is over.
Most that we’ve talked to of late feel a bit of sadness and frustration of late, as the mild weather this season has made it seem like we could just keep fishing forever. Oh well, the Park waters do need some recovery time, as do many (most?) fisherman.
There’s still lots of fishing to do in the surrounding Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming waters, books to read, flies to tie, maybe even a new rod to build (a new 4 weight for me this year). Our plan is to stay in the game with useful information for you - flies to tie, interviews with Yellowstone notables, book reviews, equipment reviews, and so on and so forth.
We’ll be posting for the most part everyday to keep you informed and challenged with good information, and have some laughs along the way.
We also reserve the right to be cranky this week as it takes a while to stop thinking about the Park waters every day…..
