Mark Henckel, the Outdoor Editor of the Billings Gazette, has written a thoughtful article published today in the Gazette regarding the human / bear interaction issues which have seemingly sprung to the forefront this year in the Yellowstone area and in fact around Montana. This link will take you right to the story.
While the article is written with the intent of dealing in part with late season hunting and bear interactions, there is much here that is applicable to the Yellowstone (and other bear areas) fisherman - and we’d suggest you take a look.
One of the more interesting suggestions in the article is the thought that increased problems this year (many of which have been unreported it would seem) are due not only to a dry year with decreased food supplies, but a boldness being cultivated especially in the grizzly population - they no longer fear man….it will add fuel to the grizzly management debate fire.
