Mark Sosin and Lefty Kreh need no introduction to the sport.  They have obviously been around the block in terms of fishing world wide, in widely variable conditions, and seeking out a plethora of species.

Their book - Practical Fishing Knots - published by Lyons Press, is one of those fundamental fly fishing reference books that should grace your shelf.  Knot tying is a skill central to the sport, and in fact is an oft overlooked skill that novices and seasoned pros alike can improve.

This revised 2nd edition is aptly illustrated in easy to understand line drawings by Rod Walinchus, much improved in this edition as compared to the first.  I’ve even referred a couple of friends recently to the book when they couldn’t grasp a key knot concept using one of the animated knot websites.

I particularly like the commentary on the breaking strength of knots and the “larger than life” size of the line diagrams - the diagrams are easy on my eyes and tendency to be all thumbs with a new knot.

I’ll bet that you change at least one of the knots you use on the river every day after reading this book - part of sport is about improving things and doing it better.  Sosin and Kreh will help you do just that.
