The Madison River in the Park continues its fairly typical August behavior, and in fact in our opinion given flows and water temps, you shouldn’t be fishing the Madison in the Park at all at this point. This section of the river will likely be fishable again within the first two weeks of September, pending weather and water.
Officially, the Madison River in the Park remains under special regulations right now - basically the entire river in the Park is closed from 2 PM to 5 AM, and unbelievably continues to draw attention from casual anglers during the mornings.
The Upper Madison river in Montana below the lakes continues to fish pretty darn well - check our Madision River Reports (divided into Upper Madison and Lower Madison) at Best Fly Fishing Montana.com. The Upper Madison report was updated yesterday.
