Author and fly fisherman Charles Meck’s recently released Fishing Tandem Flies:  Tactics, Techniques, and Rigs to Catch More Trout,  was published in August 2007 by Headwater books.  Mr. Meck has put into print what a lot of our friends, neighbors and mentors have known for years - tandem fly rigs work, and they’re pretty straightforward to set up and manage on the river.

The book is well done, with clearly presented, readily understandable illustrations by artist Dave Hall, and covers what Meck describes at the 7 most effective tandem rigs available.

While you won’t find that there is a lot of new information being handed to you on stone tablets from on high - if you’ve not been using tandem fly rigs you can learn most of the game in a few evening’s read, and feel prepared to readily implement your new skills with ease.

Perusing Mr. Meck’s website it documents he is a lifelong Pennsylvania resident and the author of several other fly fishing books - Trout Streams and Hatches of Pennsylvania, Arizona Trout Streams and Their Hatches, and Fishing Small Streams with a Fly Rod.

Overall, a nice addition to your library, and we’d bet that Mr. Meck can show you something about tandem rigs you weren’t using before - it’s all about learning something new, isn’t it?
