Yellowstone’s had more dry seasons that any of us care to remember of late - though the potential for a better winter snowpack keeps getting better and better.

The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center has released their updated forecasts today, and there’s still an encouraging prediciton of above average precipitation due for the Northwest part of the country this winter.

Predictions are just educated guesses, though the La Nina setting up has continued to strengthen - if you want to get pedantic about it here’s a link to the Climate Prediction Center’s latest update from the 8th of November.   Strong La Nina’s tend to make for better winter snowpacks in our neck of the woods.

The top map is precip forecast for Dec-Jan-Feb; the bottom  map is for Jan-Feb-Mar.

We’re doing our snowdance on the driveway waiting for the snow to start…..
